Bear with love is one of cute craft ideas for Valentine's day. It's easy to make this cute bear with our clay tutorial.

In fact, young kids can follow our tutorial to create their own toys.

Surely, they will proud of their own creation and parents will be happy too because it's so cheap to have family fun activity at home.


Steps to make bear with love figurine:

We are making bear clay figurine, aren't we? LOL

Alright, so first thing first prepare your clay. You can make your own clay following our recipe and tutorials. My recommendation would be as below:

But, if you prefer to buy the clay, check out our "what clay to buy page" before heading to your local craft store or buying them online. 

Once you have your clay ready, knead it well until it's warm, soft and flexible.

Honestly, you can choose any color you like for the bear. For me, I chose light brown.

You will also need white, black and red clay color.

Make the shape like you see in the picture below.

I don't use mold for the heart. You can make that from a ball shape, flatten it then press the top part with your clay tool and reshape it with fingers.

Btw, use toothpick to hold the head.

In the picture, you'll see that I use translucent clay at the mouth area and inside of the ears. It's made of homemade glue which I've added lots of flour to make it hard and malleable. 

Here is my homemade glue recipe:

  • 1/2 cup corn flour/ corn starch
  • 1/ cup tapioca flour
  • 1/2 tbs salt
  • 1tbs vinegar
  • 2 cup water

For the pants, use your rolling pin to make flat clay and then wrap it halfway to the bottom of the body which is like an oval shape. Then paste the upper legs to the side of the body.

Just to make it unique, I've created polka dot pants for the bear clay figurine :)

When you finish molding all the parts, let's assemble them:

  1. Paste the heart on one side of the arm with glue and let it dry so the heart stays in place.
  2. Paste the legs to the side of the body.
  3. Paste the arms to the top side of the body and use tissue paper as a support. Leave it there until the arm strong enough to stand by itself without the backing.
  4. Poke the top part of the body with toothpick. If you don't do it now while the clay still wet, it will be hard to make a hole later on. Apply a thin layer of vaseline on the toothpick before you press it down to the body so it will not stick to the wet clay. Pull out the toothpick after the clay almost dry and leave it until the whole body and parts completely dry and harden.
  5. Insert the toothpick that hold the head to the body. Not the whole length of toothpick though. Cut it first to fit about half of the body length.
  6. Finally, add a tiny white hat to make the bear looks funky and cute.
